Design and Looks
The candy bar form factor on the phone comes along with rounded corners and a black or burgundy color scheme. The dimensions of the phone stand at 4.37x2.04x0.61 which is small enough and easy to go in the pocket of various sizes. The phone provides a sturdy and a comfortable feel in the hand.
There are 3 physical controls on the phone which comprise of the 'Talk', 'End' and 'Menu'. On the right side of the phone, the phone features a volume rocker and a handset locking switch and also a camera shutter button which is a great feature. On the left side there are slots for SIM card and the MicroSD card. There is a 3.5 mm headset jack available and a Micro-USB port too on the phone.
The large part of the phone is occupied by the 3.2 inch screen. The screen has an output of 16 million colours (640x360) pixels and has an aspect ratio of 16:9. The colors on the display are bright and vibrant which result in photos being displayed sharp and neat. The brightness on the phone adjusts automatically with different lighting environments.
The touch screen is relatively responsive and there are times where some of the actions on the phone would require double taps. There is also a stylus included on the phone which can be handy with the onscreen keyboard.
Above the display, with the touch of the little logo besides the XpressMusic sign. It comes up with dedicated multimedia menu on the screen which can be used to launch the music player, view the photo galleries or share files online.
The music player is capable of automatically sorting out files by album, artist, genre and composer, also searching with gradual typing is also available. The audio quality is decent and sports more than enough functionality to call it Xpress Music edition.
With regards to imaging, the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music features two camera lenses. The main 3.2 megapixel lens located on the rear above the flash while the second one for self portraits above the display. The camera gives out a standard output and does not appeal out much.
The other features on the phone include the calendar, a calculator, an alarm clock, a world clock, a notepad, a currency and unit converter and voice recorder. There is Bluetooth with a stereo profile, file and application managers. There's an integrated Wi-Fi on the phone along with a full HTML browser, the phone also features a full GPS support with access to Nokia Maps.
The 5800 sports a 8.8 hours of talk time in GSM and 5 hours when using 3G.Overall the phone is a worthy deal but the interface is still immature and needs work. The price is competitive and makes a good deal for the Nokia fans out there.
