Design and Looks
This slider is a fairly bulky phone, but the features it packs in more than makes up for the flab. The construction is solid and makes use of the finest materials. Nokia has also improved in the art of fabricating sliding mechanisms as you will find sliding the phone a relatively effortless job.
Unlike most GPS-enabled phones in the market, the Nokia 6110 Navigator has a dedicated navigation keypad (and we're not even talking about the nav keys you use to find your way around the phone's menu!) Being a dedicated navigation phone it follows that it will spend quite some time on the dashboard of the user's car, which is where the readability of the phone's display comes to task; like most Nokia phones, you do not have to worry about this and will find the display starkly legible even under direct sunlight.
As a multimedia phone, it has average features, most notably the dismal 2MP camera that does not come with autofocus. But the phone does have Flash and real media player that will make the video viewing experience a pleasure. The music player is standard fare though. Among other features you have a tutorial that helps you maximize the potential of the phone's every aspect with picture slide shows.
Coming to the GPS, Nokia's acquisition of NAVTEQ has done wonders to this phone. For finding your way 'round town, user's have the preinstalled Route 66 application instead of Nokia maps found on some other phones. This is not necessarily a bad thing as Route 66 is the better of the two: Route 66 is notoriously quick and computes even long routes in all but a few seconds; this could also in part be attributed to the snappy Symbian 60 OS that almost never hangs. There is also Assisted GPS to kick start the GPS function instantly; of course this will cost you talktime but even the phone's regular GPS receiver is pretty reliable.
The only hiccup is that detailed maps are not pre-installed or available in the DVD-ROM that comes with the phone. They are however available for download at a price.
