Design and Looks
The slider phone comes with smooth edges and round corners while the external keys and control protrude only slightly. The face of the phone houses the 2.8 display screen which supports a resolution of 320x240. The phone is capable of displaying 16 million colours and does a great job in the sunlight.
A forward slide and the T9 numeric keypad are revealed. The keypad is flight and does not feature any sort of significant definition. On the top there are multimedia controls squared around the D-pad where there are easily accessible. Also included is the dedicated application button for switching between different application and a C that works as a backspace.
On the top there is a power button and also the hold buttons. The left side of the phone comes with the microSD card while the right side of the phone houses the standard volume rocker and a dedicated camera button. The bottom of the phone sports a microUSB port, mouthpiece and the charger plug.
The handset has a 5 megapixel camera and comes with dual LED flash. Also at the rear , the phone comes along with a kickstand that could be used to put the phone on an angle for TV viewing .The picture can be taken at a maximum resolution of 2592x1944. The camera also supports autofocus and with a dedicated AF assist light also helps.
The UI features the latest Symbian 9.3 OS with Series60 3rd Edition. The most important benefit of the new UI is the new Active Standby Layout which allows quick access to a lot more features.
With regards to reception the phone does pretty well without any interference or low signal problems. The handset comes along with voice recognition system but does not support the smart dialing feature.
Another noteworthy application is the music player which comes along with the handset. The player supports almost all available formats with support for album art too.
Music library is automatically sorted by artist, album, genre and composer. Users can create their own playlist and adding tracks to library is very simple too.
The highlight of the phone is its DVB-H tuner. The phone is able to receive digital TV broadcasts. Using the Live TV application the phone could be used to access mobile television, radio services and ability to listen to digital programs. Also included with the phone is the radio that has a simple interface featuring RDS and visual radio.
The GPS chip is the upgrade to its predecessor, the device works with the Nokia Maps application which is free and relatively easy to use. Also the phone comes free with 3 months of free voice-guided navigation.
The phone is a great software package and loaded with features. But the design of the phone could be something that Nokia could look into. Overall a complete multimedia package, with users who wouldn't mind the bulky size the phone is a right choice.
